Boston Bay Diner: Tourism and Hospitality Marketing Case Study

A long-term marketing partnership in tourism and hospitality

From a complete brand redesign to tourism accreditation and awards submissions, Decant Digital has worked alongside Boston Bay Diner since its owners purchased the business in March 2024.

Our partnership brings together brand, website, design and ongoing marketing advice to support a Port Lincoln café serving both its local community and visitors to the Eyre Peninsula.

The opportunity

A new chapter
for a familiar local business

When Ron and Marieta Chirgwin purchased Boston Bay Diner, they saw the potential to restore a much loved meeting place on Port Lincoln’s foreshore.

Their vision centred on warm hospitality, good value and food that reflected the Eyre Peninsula. They wanted locals to feel at home and visitors to experience something of the town’s everyday life.

The marketing needed to reflect that direction. A refreshed identity, a search optimised website and consistent customer materials would give the business a clear foundation under its new ownership.

There was also an opportunity to strengthen Boston Bay Diner’s tourism offering and communicate its contribution to the local visitor economy. Showcasing regional produce, welcoming travellers and connecting guests with local businesses and experiences would build on its role as a community hub, encouraging visitor spending and supporting the wider Port Lincoln community.

What we delivered

Practical support
from the first rebrand onwards

Our work began with the foundations and developed into an ongoing partnership as the owners rebuilt the business.

Brand redesign and style guide

We completed a full brand redesign and developed a style guide to support consistent presentation across the business.

The identity gave the owners a clear visual direction to carry through their website, menus and promotional materials, supporting the café’s new chapter while retaining its established name.

A search-optimised website

We designed and built a search-optimised website to help customers discover Boston Bay Diner and understand its offering.

For a hospitality business serving travellers, the website plays an important role before arrival. It gives people a way to explore the café, find practical information and plan a visit, whether they are already in Port Lincoln or researching a trip to the Eyre Peninsula.

Menus and marketing collateral

We designed menus, business cards, publicity flyers, loyalty cards and other materials used throughout the business.

These everyday items brought the refreshed brand into the customer experience, from choosing a meal to taking away information or returning for another visit. Having one agency across the brand, website and collateral helped keep the presentation consistent.

Ongoing tourism and hospitality marketing advisory

As the relationship developed, we continued advising the owners on tourism and hospitality marketing priorities.

That ongoing involvement means advice can build on an understanding of the business, its customers and the owners’ ambitions. It also helps connect individual marketing decisions with the broader task of serving regular local customers while reaching people visiting the region.

Tourism accreditation and awards submissions

We managed the tourism accreditation process in partnership with the owners, supporting Boston Bay Diner in formalising its place within the tourism industry.

The business achieved Quality Tourism and Sustainable Tourism Accreditation in 2025.

We also managed its 2026 South Australian Tourism Awards submission. The submission brought together the café's business development, customer experience, regional contribution and performance evidence to explain its role in the visitor economy.

Booking systems and business listings

We supported booking system integration and managed business and tourism listings, including Google Business Profile and the Australian Tourism Data Warehouse (ATDW), to help customers discover Boston Bay Diner and plan their visit.

Connecting these touchpoints with the website helps keep business information consistent and makes it easier for locals and visitors to find the café, explore its offering and make a booking.

The business impact

A stronger business presence.
Foundations for continued growth.

Our partnership has given Boston Bay Diner a consistent brand, connected customer touchpoints and ongoing marketing support. Together, these foundations help the owners reach customers, make planning a visit easier and develop the business as new opportunities emerge.

A consistent brand

A refreshed identity carried across the website, menus and marketing materials gives the business a recognisable presence, helping customers understand what Boston Bay Diner offers.

Connected customer touchpoints

The website, booking systems, Google Business Profile and ATDW listing work together to help locals and visitors discover the café, find practical information and plan a visit.

Support for the next stage

Ongoing advice connects everyday marketing decisions with the owners’ wider ambitions, providing continuity as the business develops its local following and visitor offering.

Why the tourism and hospitality connection matters

Local hospitality is part
of the visitor experience

A place for locals and visitors

Boston Bay Diner’s regular customers give the café its character. Visitors share that setting, enjoy regional produce and leave with recommendations about what else to see and do.

Part of the regional economy

Its contribution extends to local suppliers, accommodation providers, tourism operators and the wider Port Lincoln community. The café is somewhere to eat, but it is also one of the places through which travellers experience the region.

A clear sense of place

Understanding that connection shapes how we present the business. The brand, website, collateral and tourism submissions need to communicate both the practical reasons to visit and the sense of place people will find when they arrive.

The value of an ongoing marketing partnership

Support that develops with the business

Boston Bay Diner’s marketing needs have evolved since the initial change of ownership. The first priorities were a refreshed brand, a website and the materials needed for everyday trade. As the business developed, the work expanded into tourism accreditation, industry positioning and awards submissions.

An ongoing partnership provides continuity through those stages. The owners have a marketing partner who knows the business and can combine strategic advice with practical delivery as new priorities emerge.

For Boston Bay Diner, that has meant connected support across the way the business looks, how customers discover it and how it tells its story within the tourism industry.
