Accommodation · Media & PR campaign
Kestrel Nest EcoHut: Tourism PR case study.
An off-grid regional stay. An Australian first. A story with national appeal.
Becoming Australia’s first DarkSky Approved Lodging gave Kestrel Nest EcoHut a powerful reason to be noticed. Decant Digital turned that milestone into a targeted PR and media outreach campaign, connecting its dark skies and conservation story with wider audiences.

A national story.

The opportunity
A reason to travel.
A reason to tell the story.
Kestrel Nest EcoHut at Highfield Farm & Woodland already offered something distinctive: an off-grid stay grounded in conservation and connection to nature.
Its April 2025 DarkSky accreditation created a timely national story. The opportunity was to connect that recognition with what guests could experience, from stargazing to a deeper appreciation of the surrounding landscape.
Our brief was to build awareness among relevant travel audiences and encourage interest in stays throughout 2025 and beyond.

What we delivered
The right story.
Ready for the right media.
Tania and the Decant Digital team built the campaign around the retreat’s character and values. Each element gave journalists a clearer story to tell and potential guests a stronger reason to explore the experience.
A timely campaign angle
We aligned the launch with International Dark Sky Week in April 2025, shaping angles around astro-tourism, eco-luxury, conservation and rural innovation. The accreditation became a relevant travel story.
Targeted media outreach
A tailored media list and individual pitches connected the story with travel, sustainability, lifestyle and regional outlets. Each pitch focused on why the experience mattered to that outlet’s audience.
Materials ready to use
Fact sheets, high-resolution photography, biographies, quotes and a Q&A gave media the practical information needed to develop a story. A creator collaboration brief supported consistent, authentic storytelling.
Connected digital content
Social rollout planning, SEO blog content and website enhancements supported the outreach, helping interested travellers find more information after encountering the story.
The reported results
Media attention.
Strong booking demand.
The 2025 campaign brought national and international media interest to a small regional operator. Interest and coverage spanned TV, radio, print, podcasts and news outlets, including regional broadcast coverage in the Riverina and ACT.
Increase in website traffic and social media engagement
Campaign content brought more attention to the retreat across its website and social channels.
Through to October 2025
Kestrel Nest reported being fully booked through to the end of October at the time of the campaign update.
Left for the rest of 2025
Only two weekends remained available before year end when those results were reported.
Results reported in the 2025 campaign update. Booking availability reflects that update.
In the client’s words
“Most importantly
of all they ‘got us’.”
“Decant Digital’s comprehensive and yet targeted approach has put us in front of media from small local radio stations, to magazines with national distribution, to podcasters and beyond. Most importantly of all they ‘got us’. Tania and her small team knew right away we were not one of the thousands of stays out there. They knew we were unique and their expertise is helping us be recognised that way.”

Why invest in tourism PR?
Give people a reason
to choose your business.
For a regional tourism or hospitality business, a distinctive experience is a commercial asset. PR helps bring that difference to people who may never have heard of you, through stories they have a reason to read, watch or share.
Reach beyond your followers
Relevant media can introduce your accommodation, restaurant or experience to audiences outside your existing channels. Kestrel Nest’s story attracted interest beyond its local region.
Build confidence in the choice
Independent editorial coverage can give prospective guests another reason to investigate your business. A compelling story explains what makes the experience worth the journey.
Make the attention useful
Connect publicity with clear website content, availability and an easy enquiry or booking path. Then measure referral visits, enquiries and bookings to understand what that attention contributes.

The investment is in the strategy, story development, media relationships and practical delivery that give a good story its best chance.
Coverage is an editorial decision, so a placement or booking uplift cannot be guaranteed. The useful starting point is a genuine story, a relevant audience and a clear business goal, whether that is awareness for a new experience or demand for a quieter season.
